The computer-animated Peeping Life comedy anime series will spawn five new shorts for Japanese theaters from December 1, 2009 to February 5, 2010.
Like MTV Japan's The World of GOLDEN EGGS, this "slow-life anime" is part of the datsuryoku-kei (ennui-style) genre of comedy that depicts the listless minutiae of everyday life. Series producer and director Ryōichi Mori ("Each Life") combines motion-captured improvised acting with computer animation in this production from CoMix Wave Films and Brosta TV.
Each of the five shorts will run on the lobby monitors in T-Joy's theater chain for two weeks before being replaced by the next short. In one Tokyo cinema complex (Shinjuku Wald 9), the shorts will run on the complex's actual theater screens.
Crunchyroll began streaming the original series of television shorts with English subtitles this past spring.
